Private tutoring in Linguistics and English. Major tutoring experience teaching English and Tongan languages to Japanese. I am a retired Linguistics lecturer from the University of the South Pacific, Suva, Fiji, and am interested in continuing to work in my area of expertise (Linguistics, English) I can send an electronic copy of my CV if you are interested. I worked in South Korea teaching English as a Second Language to Korean high school students as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer 1966-68. During this period I also taught Indonesian Language at the Korean Univrsity of Foreign Languages. I worked as a Tongan language consultant for 15 years (1986-2001)to J.I.C.A (Japanese International Cooperation Agency)in Tonga Islands teaching Tongan language programs to Japanese volunteers working in Tonga. These were one-month intensive Tongan language programs for JICA volunteers (averaging 4 programs per year). More recently I have taught Linguistics at the University of the South Pacific, Suva, Fiji from 2001-2013. My expertise is in Structure of English (grammar), Phonetics and Phonology, Syntax and Typology, Varieties (registers) of English.

Hobbies

Surfing is my sport. I have been surfing since I was a teenager (1960) in California, Hawaii, Tonga and Fiji. I am interested in Indian Cinema and have taken a keen interest in the Indian film scene since 2001. I am a mother and grandmother. I lived in the Tonga Islands (South Pacific) for 30 years. My children and grandchildren are bilingual in Tongan and English. My two daughters were educated at U.S. universities (Middlebury, Bowdoin, U. Hawaii, and U. Colorado).
