EducationUniversity of New Hampshire - BA, Chemistry
ExperienceI am passionate about chemistry, and would love to share my knowledge and passion for the subject with future clients. Chemistry is an important and essential part of my life. I first realized my love for it when I was in high school; it was then that I realized I wanted to pursue a future in it. I majored in chemistry at the University of New Hampshire, each year there, it became more exciting. In my freshman year, general chemistry opened my eyes and mind to the many types of chemistry. About halfway through my second year, I realized I had a growing passion for organic chemistry. I became part of a research group that synthesized new compounds having anti-HIV properties and compounds that improve medical scan images. During my four years of college, I was awarded quite a few awards for research and academic excellence. I moved to Germany for six months after graduating. In Germany, I interned with BASF, a chemical company. I was able to do research on coating systems and paints. Currently, I am an AmeriCorps volunteer in a high school. I am hoping that my next academic adventure will land me back in Germany to do some more research before I head off to earn my Ph.D. in organic chemistry. In my sophomore year of college, I started tutoring in chemistry. I became a tutor through a Peer Led Learning Program. I led weekly groups with ten to twelve chemistry students. We worked on homework, labs, and exams to gain a better understanding of the material. Additionally, I took a course focusing on learning habits of general chemistry students. This course allowed me to gain insight into the many different ways that students learn. I learned that chemistry is best taught through discussion. After that, I began private tutoring, and I realized that my students were learning effectively when we discussed chemistry topics at length. My tutoring style includes guiding my students, not just telling them when they are right or wrong. I believe in asking probing questions to engage my students' minds. My primary goal is to instill my students with a sense of confidence as they explore this challenging and exciting topic.
